Abstract: In health care education as well as Medical Laboratory Science and Molecular Diagnostics education, there is a need to enhance the clinical learning environment. Incorporating simulation experiences into Diagnostic Molecular Scientist (DMS) student’s clinical experience provides not only technical expertise but skills to work within a team and highly regulated environment. Clinical simulations provide the opportunity to allow students to enhance the quality of the learning environment, facilitate acquisition of crucial knowledge, skills, and attitudes, provide opportunities for assessing students and providing feedback and enhance the uniformity of the learning experience. This presentation will highlight the opportunities and limitations of an enhanced clinical simulation experience with simulation exercises.

Dr. Heping Han

Dr. Heping Han is an Associate Professor at Tarleton State University who has been actively engaged in educating professional Molecular Laboratory Scientists since 2007. Dr. Han previously served as the Lead Scientist of Nobel Laureate, Dr. Alfred Gilman’s Antibody laboratory within the Alliance for Cellular Signaling at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School.

Dr. Sally Lewis

Dr. Sally Lewis serves as Director of the Molecular Diagnostic Scientist program at Tarleton State University.
