(FSD) Intro to Free Cloud Computing (It's not pi in the sky)

Abstract: If you analyze data, run simulations, or do anything else that involves significant computation, you should consider doing it in the cloud. Services like Google Colab & BigQuery give you free (or almost free) access to massively powerful Python & SQL compute platforms that can accelerate your reseach and teaching. You do not need special hardware - they work on any internet-connected computer because Google's servers do all the hard work. You can bring high performance computing to your research and provide a powerful OER to your students for free. In this workshop, I'll help you setup Colab & BigQuery to work together to store and analyze data (big or small) for use in the classroom and your own research. While Colab is always free, please start your free cloud.google.com trial before the workshop so you can access BigQuery.
