Abstract: Many organizations are dedicated to community health improvement in rural communities. However, not all organizations have the required assets or workforce to ensure the success of community health projects. Academic institutions can play a vital role and provide the proper infrastructure for the success of community-based interventions in rural areas. With the multitude of talented faculty well-versed in rural health issues and rural communication, access to student workers from distinct departments and departmental resources can ensure the success of rural projects, especially large grant-funded ventures with multiple deliverables. In this presentation, we plan to demonstrate the success of community-based interventions and how we have attempted to improve rural health through unique approaches, leveraging university assets and talents.

Dr. Subi Gandhi

Dr. Subi Gandhi is an Associate Professor of Public Health at Tarleton State University and currently serves as the Assistant Director at the Rural Communication Institute. In addition to representing Tarleton at many local, state, regional, national, and international public health organizations, she is an avid researcher with an extensive background in epidemiology and rural population health.

Dr. Jennifer Edwards

Dr. Jennifer Edwards is a Professor of Communication Studies and serves as the Executive Director of the Rural Communication Institute as well as Texas Social Media Research Institute - a social media initiative based at Tarleton State University. Prior to her current role, she served as Assistant Vice-President for Student Success and Multicultural Initiatives at Tarleton
